At GSB, we are proud to be part of the innovative BEN project, a light and 100% electric urban vehicle developed within the Be.Neutral agenda, promoted by CEiiA (Center for Engineering and Development). This project is part of a broader vision to build carbon-neutral mobility solutions and demonstrate, in real-time, the emissions avoided through the use of sustainable technologies.
A vehicle designed for the city of the future
The BEN is not a traditional car for sale to the public, but a shared vehicle designed to integrate into Mobility as a Service (MaaS) platforms. In other words, it can be used on demand—via a mobile application—in urban environments such as Guimarães, Braga, Viana do Castelo, and Famalicão, among other Portuguese cities that are already preparing for their pilot tests.
The vehicle belongs to the L7e category, meaning it’s a lightweight, agile, and efficient model, ideal for urban commuting. Manufactured with low-carbon materials and following circularity principles (reduce, reuse, recycle), it represents an important step towards more responsible and sustainable mobility.
An industrialized project from Portugal
The manufacturing and management of the BEN is led by BEN4US, a company created to take the vehicle from the development phase to industrial production. The consortium includes major Portuguese companies such as Salvador Caetano, Simoldes, and TMG Automotive, which contribute their expertise in engineering, materials, and components.
GSB and its contribution to the BEN
Our involvement in the project focuses on manufacturing the seat belts for the BEN vehicle. At GSB, we apply our expertise in developing safe, durable restraint systems adapted to new electric vehicle architectures.
The challenge is not just to manufacture a belt, but to create a lightweight, functional solution that aligns with the project’s sustainability goals. That’s why we work with recyclable materials and optimized processes that minimize environmental impact without compromising user safety or comfort.
Committed to sustainable mobility
Being part of BEN means contributing to a Portuguese innovation ecosystem that unites engineering, sustainability, and digital technology to transform the way we move. At GSB, we believe that the future of mobility lies in collaborative, safe, and environmentally friendly solutions, and this project is a clear example of that direction.
